Access to Val Thorens by car
The resort of Val Thorens is close to the town of Moûtiers, situated in the department of Savoie, in the Northern Alps. It takes 2h40 from Lyon, 1h50 from Grenoble and 1h30 from Chambéry.
Once you reach Moûtiers, you have just a 32km drive on mountain roads. The road is made safe with regular winter maintenance. You should, however, equip your car with snow tyres, snow chains or sleeves.
When you arrive at the resort, in most cases you can drop off passengers and luggage outside your accommodation. Once you have unloaded you must park your vehicle in one of the car parks. You can then let your car rest throughout your holiday. Val Thorens is a semi-pedestrian resort, which restricts parking on its streets in winter!

Mandatory winter equipment
In order to increase user safety by reducing the specific risks associated with driving on snowy or icy roads, it is mandatory to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have removable anti-skid devices (chains or snow socks) throughout the Savoie department from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.
This regulation also aims to avoid blockage situations in mountainous regions, when vehicles not equipped find themselves across lanes, unable to get out of the way, immobilizing an entire traffic axis.

Parking Facilities
In Val Thorens, it is imperative to park in one of the station's parking lots. The advantage is that there are no cars parked in front of your building entrance or long traffic queues at the end of the day.
To facilitate your arrival, you can reserve your parking space online up to 7 days before your arrival. After this deadline, you will need to purchase your ticket at the P0 and P1 parking booths (Saturday/Sunday) or at the P2 parking (24/7) upon your arrival in Val Thorens.
